Why would your favourite local cafe consider making the switch from its old paper menu? Well, for starters, updating the menu with new products can be quite a chore. When those popular items run out, getting the message across to customers in a timely manner can be a real challenge. But fear not! Just like how taxis and newspapers adapted to technology to meet customer demands, it's high time menus caught up too.


The Story
My story began with menus at my favourite Portuguese deli. I was super excited to scan their fancy QR code but led to a confusing PDF version of their paper menu, prompting the old-school ordering method. This experience sparked the question: How can we simplify and enhance this for everyone? How might we streamline menu ordering for both businesses and customers?

We've all been there – dealing with bad menus, endless options, dishes vanishing into thin air, and the dreaded group order chaos. But for hospitality businesses, menus play a vital role in crafting unforgettable dining experiences.


The Solution
As a product designer with a fuzzy vision, I had an idea of how I wanted the app to look and function – a super user-friendly platform that allows businesses to effortlessly upload menus, assign categories or tables, and generate QR codes. In this first version of Menuscan, we focus on providing businesses with a digital menu and a streamlined checkout flow. Customers can easily launch their unique Menuscan link and experience the convenience and efficiency comparable to popular platforms like Uber Eats, DoorDash, or Deliveroo.

Over the past few months, I've had the opportunity to meet numerous business owners, and their feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Through these interactions, I've learned that bad menus can lead to negative experiences for both customers and businesses, impacting operations and revenue.
